Privacy Policy for Audio Transcriber

Last updated: July 5, 2026

Audio Transcriber ("we", "us", or "our") provides a Chrome extension that helps users convert audio and video into text transcripts. This Privacy Policy explains what information the Audio Transcriber extension collects, how we use it, and when it is shared with service providers.

By using Audio Transcriber, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the extension.

Information We Collect

Audio, video, and captured tab audio

When you choose to transcribe a local file or record audio from a browser tab, the extension processes the audio or video you selected. The selected content is uploaded to our backend infrastructure so it can be converted into text.

Audio and video content may include personal or sensitive information depending on what is present in the recording. You should only upload or record content that you have the right to process.

Transcription results

The extension receives generated transcripts from transcription service providers and displays them to you in the extension interface. A transcript may include personal or sensitive information if that information is present in the uploaded or recorded content.

Usage and transcription metadata

We may collect technical and usage information needed to operate, protect, debug, and improve the service, including:

Local extension storage

The extension stores anonymous identifiers in your browser's local storage. These identifiers help us recognize repeat usage, apply feature flags, measure reliability, and prevent abuse. They do not contain your name, email address, or payment information.

Automatically processed technical information

When the extension communicates with our backend and service providers, standard technical information may be processed automatically, such as IP address, request headers, browser information, and server logs. This processing is necessary for network communication, security, fraud prevention, debugging, and service reliability.

Information We Do Not Collect

Audio Transcriber does not intentionally collect your name, mailing address, phone number, payment card information, passwords, full browsing history, or the contents of web pages you visit.

The extension uses Chrome permissions only to provide its stated transcription features. Browser tab audio is accessed only when you start a recording or transcription action that requires it.

How We Use Information

We use the information described above to:

Data Sharing

We share information only as needed to operate the extension and provide transcription functionality.

Backend, hosting, and storage infrastructure

Uploaded files, recorded tab audio, generated file links, and related metadata are processed by our backend, hosting, and cloud storage infrastructure so the extension can upload files, send content for transcription, retrieve results, and delete temporary files where supported by the current processing flow.

Transcription providers

Audio or video content may be sent to transcription providers that process the content and return transcript results. Depending on the selected transcription mode and service availability, we may use providers such as Lemonfox and Deepinfra.

Analytics and feature flagging providers

We use Amplitude for product analytics and feature flagging. Amplitude may receive anonymous identifiers, device identifiers, event names, extension version, selected settings, approximate audio duration, backend selection, and error or reliability events.

We do not send uploaded audio, video files, recorded tab audio, or transcript text to Amplitude.

Fallback infrastructure

If the primary upload, storage, or transcription path is unavailable, the extension may use fallback infrastructure, including Vercel, to keep the transcription service working.

Legal and safety reasons

We may disclose information if required by law, legal process, or a valid governmental request, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, safety, and security of users, the public, our service, or our infrastructure.

Chrome Web Store Limited Use

We use user data only to provide and improve Audio Transcriber's single purpose: converting user-selected audio and video into text transcripts.

We do not sell user data. We do not use uploaded audio, video, recorded tab audio, or transcripts for advertising. We do not transfer user data to data brokers or advertising networks. We do not use user data to determine creditworthiness, lending eligibility, employment eligibility, or similar decisions.

Data Retention

Uploaded files and recorded audio are kept only as long as reasonably necessary to provide transcription, operate the service, troubleshoot failures, and protect against abuse. Where supported by the current processing flow, files may be deleted after successful transcription.

Transcription metadata, anonymous identifiers, usage records, diagnostic logs, and service reliability data may be retained for as long as necessary to operate the service, measure usage, prevent abuse, debug issues, and comply with legal obligations.

User Controls and Choices

You can stop using Audio Transcriber at any time. You can remove locally stored extension data by clearing the extension's site data or removing the extension from Chrome.

You may contact us to request access, deletion, or correction of personal information associated with your use of the extension. Because the extension primarily uses anonymous identifiers, we may need information from you to locate relevant records.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information processed by the extension and our backend infrastructure. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children

Audio Transcriber is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the extension, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.

International Processing

The service providers used to operate Audio Transcriber may process information in different countries. By using the extension, you understand that your information may be processed outside your country of residence.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the extension after an update means that you accept the updated Privacy Policy.
